Ventana's glamping sits inside Ventana Campground: a 40-acre redwood canyon along Post Creek, below the Alila Ventana Big Sur resort, about 30 miles south of Carmel on Highway 1. You sleep in a furnished safari tent on a deck, with a real bed, power and a sink, a few minutes' drive from Big Sur's stores and restaurants. Below is what the tents include, what they don't, and the two other places in Big Sur to sleep under canvas: the Treebones yurts and Fernwood's Adventure Tents.

The two tent types
- Redwood Glampsite. A safari-style canvas tent among the redwoods, with a custom mattress and premium linens.
- Canyon Glampsite. Set in the California woodland and reached only on foot, for more privacy. Pack light, since you'll carry your bags in.
The campground map marks fifteen glamping sites (G1 to G15), with their own bathhouse and a parking area. Ventana doesn't post nightly prices; you see them in Hyatt's booking flow.
What's in the tent
Every glampsite has:
- Electric lamps and power outlets with USB ports
- Instant hot and cold drinking water at a sink
- A wood-burning fire pit and a propane fire pit on the deck
- Two Adirondack chairs with pads and a picnic table
- Hand and bath towels (two per tent) and handheld lanterns
Ventana doesn't list a heater in the tents, and Big Sur nights are cool most of the year, so bring warm layers for the fire pit.
What's not included
- The resort's pools, fitness studio and programs. Ventana keeps them for resort guests; a limited number of resort passes can be booked in advance.
- Meals. The Sur House restaurant at the resort is open to all guests, with reservations. Firewood, ice and s'mores kits are sold at the campground's entry kiosk (firewood $14 a bundle, ice $4 a bag; you can also preorder by email).
The resort is aimed at couples and caps its rooms at two people, children included. That rule is the resort's; Ventana doesn't post one for the campground.
Dogs, RVs and the tent campground
- Dogs are welcome at the glampsites for $75 per stay, with a dog bed, treats and a water bowl included. Ventana's campground FAQ allows one dog per glampsite and its resort site two, so check when you book. Regular tent sites take up to two pets free. (Resort rooms charge $150 per stay.)
- No RVs or vans. Ventana Campground is tent-only: no motorhomes, trailers, pop-ups, camper vans or trucks with rooftop tents. For hookups, see RV camping in Big Sur.
- The canyon still has regular tent sites too, with a picnic table and fire ring at each, two bathhouses and water faucets nearby. You bring your own tent and bedding. Showers cost $2 for 5 minutes, summer stays have a three-night minimum, and each site takes one vehicle, none over 20 feet.
Big Sur yurts: Treebones Resort
For a yurt, the place is Treebones Resort, on a ridge above the ocean near Gorda, about 30 miles (an hour's drive) south of Big Sur Village and 25 miles north of San Simeon.
- 16 yurts, each with a king bed (family yurts have two), polished wood floors, French doors and a private redwood deck over the Pacific
- Heating, electric lights and a sink with hot and cold water; heated restrooms and showers are at the lodge, a 1–3 minute walk
- Breakfast included, plus access to the pool and hot tub
- Treebones takes guests 13 and older; 2-night minimum (call for exceptions); the full stay is charged at booking
- No pets, no cell service, no EV charging
Among its other stays are two solar-powered Autonomous Tents with private bathrooms (18+ per the tent listing), the Human Nest, an open woven nest you sleep in with your own bedding (adults only; a tent is required as backup), and four walk-in tent sites with no campfires. It doesn't post prices; book on its website or at 877-424-4787.
Fernwood Adventure Tents
In the Big Sur River valley, Fernwood Resort has three Adventure Tents: canvas on a wood platform, with a queen bed, linens, towels and an electric heater, and a bathhouse with hot showers shared by the three tents only. Fernwood lists them at $175–$250 a night and asks guests to leave pets at home. Its ten simpler tent cabins ($130–$210, plus $10 per dog) have no heat or plumbing, and you bring your own sleeping bag.
Getting there: Highway 1
Highway 1 through Big Sur reopened at Regent's Slide on January 14, 2026, so you can drive the whole coast between Carmel and Cambria again, and reach both Ventana and Treebones from either end. Caltrans still runs one-way traffic control at several work zones; check Caltrans QuickMap or call 1-800-427-7623 before you go.
